After graduating from dental school in 2014, Dr. Paul continued his education at a general practice residency with a focus on trauma, hospital, surgical, and operating room dentistry. Here he developed a love for complex dentistry and decided to pursue training as a specialist. He earned his MDS degree and specialty certification as a prosthodontist at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center after completing a three-year residency with a focus on implants, cosmetic full mouth rehabilitation, management of jaw disorders, and removable denture prosthodontics.
He served as Chief Resident his final year and taught part-time at the dental school clinic, supervising removable denture and crown procedures. Dr. Paul is also an adjunct faculty in prosthodontics at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois, and lectures on removable implant over-dentures, TMD diagnosis/ management, and esthetic driven treatment planning.
Dr. Paul first became interested in dentistry when he was young after spending a lot of time around dentists, often in the dental chair himself. He loved that dentistry offered a means of incorporating his love of art and science while allowing him to form long-lasting relationships with patients. Dr. Paul states that his goal as a dentist is to provide comfortable and high-quality care to patients, treating each person as if they are family. Although he specializes in prosthodontics, he will also be available to provide routine and complex general dental services.
After completing his long journey of dental training in July of 2018, Dr. Paul and his wife Tricia decided to move back near family and lay down roots in the St. Louis area where he grew up. Outside of dentistry, his hobbies include exercising, reading, enjoying local food hotspots with friends and family, and of course, spending as much time as possible with his wife and son, Paul Taylor, who they recently welcomed in July of 2018.

He was accepted to the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Dentistry and graduated in 2014 with academic honors and a member of the Oral Surgery Honors Program. It was then that he joined his uncle, Dr. Alan Handler, in practice, and acquired ownership of Chesterfield Hilltown Dental in August of 2015. Three years later, Dr. Andrew joined the office of Dr. Stephen F. Paul, DDS and purchased the reputable practice of 44 years, naming this second location, Chesterfield Woodlake Dental.
Dr. Andrew, who has always had a love for art and science, feels that being a dentist allows him to integrate both passions into his career. Dental technology and Computer Assisted Design are also interests of Dr. Andrew’s.
He enjoys figuring out ways to implement new technology and services into his dental practices for higher quality care and more convenient visits. His favorite part of being a dentist is changing or making a positive impact on someone’s life. Getting a patient out of pain or giving someone a smile they can show off, is extremely rewarding for him. He strives to exceed his patients’ expectations with thorough planning, communication, and attention to detail.
Outside of the office, Dr. Andrew enjoys traveling, photography, reading, cooking, brewing beer, playing golf, and spending time with his wife, baby daughter, and pup.
Dr. Carissa is from the small town of Fredonia, in southeast Kansas. When she was 15 years old, the (only) dentist in her hometown asked her to work in his office for the summer. That opportunity sparked her interest in dentistry, and from then, she began her pursuit in the career.Read More
Dr. Carissa attended Kansas State University (Go Cats!) and earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology/Pre-Dentistry, in 2012. From there, she attended UMKC School of Dentistry where she was involved in Psi Omega dental fraternity and graduated from UMKC with honors, in May of 2016.
The following month, she and her husband Dr. Andrew Bruening were married, moved to O’Fallon, Missouri, and began their professional careers together at Chesterfield Hilltown Dental. Two years later, she and her husband purchased this second location to their practice from Dr. Stephen F. Paul, DDS and eventually branded the new office, Chesterfield Woodlake Dental. Dr. Carissa is currently a member of the ADA, MDA and Greater St. Louis Dental Society where she serves on the Council of Membership.
Dr. Carissa states that she has a passion for developing honest and meaningful relationships with her patients. “The majority of people do not enjoy going to the dentist.
This is not a secret. It is my goal to give every single person who walks in our door my utmost respect, as well as the best treatment he/she can receive. Whether it be pain relief, cosmetic change, or simply a relaxing, personalized experience.”
Dr. Carissa genuinely enjoys the education side of dentistry. She considers it an important part of her job as an oral health-care provider to educate patients on how to take care of their teeth, gums, and overall health.
In her free time, you can find Dr. Carissa cheering on the K-State Wildcats, playing various sports to stay active, and occasionally binge-watching a good crime show on TV. Dr. Carissa also spends a lot of time with her husband, Dr. Andrew Bruening, their daughter, who was born in September of 2018 and their goldendoodle. Whether they are traveling across the world or just sitting on their couch, time with her family is her favorite.
